Andie, a self-taught artist, fills her work with natural honesty and joy. Her images have a broad appeal and range from wild and tame birds, to flowers, cats, abstracts and surfing. Andie grew up in Hawaii and California, so her works are inspired by sunlight and open air.
Andie had a pet love bird named Chico. He liked to work alongside her. His favorite job was to cut paper with his beak. Andie provided him with various printed papers; he chose only Hawaiian shirt prints and shredded shapes reminiscent of surf boards. Then he’d tuck them gently under his wings.
Andie later arranged Chico’s shapes into collages. She made beach scenes decorated with palm trees. Andie refers to one collage as chaotic, but we believe it looks more like a traditional American quilt.
